The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking individuals to establish an inventory of qualified candidates to fill current and future Field Veterinarian positions throughout the Province. Specific locations have not been determined.
As a member of the Animal Health Services team, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing veterinary diagnostic, medical, surgical and regulatory services. Responsibilities include the following: providing emergency services on a rotational basis including working extended hours, evenings and weekends as required; completing on-farm calls for the livestock (large and small ruminants, swine, and fur bearing animals etc.) and equine sectors in New Brunswick. Duties will also include, but are not limited to, herd health management, medical and surgical services, diagnostic services, providing pharmaceutical prescriptions, advising clients on animal health issues, maintaining medical records, and billing for services rendered. This position will also require a high level of communication and interaction with industry, government, private Veterinarians and other stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Veterinarian 1: A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from a recognized School of Veterinary Medicine, or successful completion in 2023 and 2024; and registration or eligibility for registration with the New Brunswick Veterinary Medical Association.
Veterinarian 2: A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from a recognized School of Veterinary Medicine; registration or eligibility for registration with the New Brunswick Veterinary Medical Association; and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
Recent graduation from a recognized School of Veterinary Medicine as well as students graduating in 2023 and 2024 are welcome to apply.
Some positions require written and spoken competence in French and English. Others will require written and spoken competence in English or in French only. Please state your language capability on your application.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate must be prepared to: work on a rotational basis to provide emergency services; work extended hours, evenings and weekends, on occasion during emergencies; carry out physically demanding tasks; work in a farm environment which may include working in unfavorable conditions and working outside in inclement weather; work in a laboratory setting; possess a valid class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick. The successful candidate must successfully complete a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) reference check, as requested.
SALARY:
Veterinarian 1: $79,546.22 to $90,843.48 per annum
Veterinarian 2: $79,455.74 to $108,754.36 per annum
Note: Successful candidates will also be eligible for standby pay and overtime compensation as per the Agriculture, Veterinary, Engineering, Land Surveying and Architecture Collective Agreement.
