The Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development is seeking an individual to join the Forest Operations and Development Branch as Manager, Sector Initiatives, in Fredericton.

As a member of the Forest Operations and Development team and reporting to the Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for strategic planning, development, and support of departmental forestry initiatives. Responsibilities include providing leadership to employees within the Sector Initiatives Section, including establishing clear performance objectives, conducting regular performance reviews, and establishing priorities and objectives to achieve program goals. As part of leading the Sector Initiatives Section, the Manager focuses on client services for internal and external customers such as members of the public, other Public Service employees, partner businesses or organizations, employees of other organizations, etc. This position provides Forestry Division staff and senior management with action planning, analysis, and recommendations for development, improvements, and efficiencies for private and Crown land initiatives and processes. The successful candidate will maintain positive working relationships with department experts, forest industry stakeholders, Licensees, Forest Products Marketing Boards, and other governments, to share expertise, information, and best practices. The manager has responsibility for staff who coordinate the production of multi-media content and web pages for the Forestry Division including the communications planning and the annual development and release of the State of the Forest Reports. This position provides information for Memorandums to Executive Council, prepares briefing notes, correspondence, and reports, and represents the department at meetings, conferences, committees, and working groups at the regional, national, and international scale. Additionally, the manager will lead the forest bioenergy file relative to the Forestry Division including participating and liaising with colleagues in the Energy Division, interprovincial and national level committees. This position may also be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Biology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Management, or a related discipline; a minimum of six (6) years of related work experience, including a minimum of three (3) years of experience in forest management planning, sustainable forestry, or natural resource management; and a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATION(S): Preference may be given to candidates that are registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Forester in New Brunswick. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to travel within and outside of the province as required.

SALARY:  $72,540 to $96,512 per annum
