Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.

The Saint John District is a part of six (6) district offices that delivers programs for the maintenance and construction of bridges, highways and ferries.

What you will do

As a member of the Saint John District, the successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of a team of mechanics, welders and other employees with the Evandale Repair Facility and Evandale and Gagetown ferry operations and be responsible for:

  • The administration, coordination, planning, scheduling, distributing and monitoring of work activities to ensure compliance with all departmental policies and procedures
  • Inspect ferries and ensure proper maintenance and repair of ferries and assets
  • Monitor expenditures
  • Manage an inventory of parts and materials

Work environment

  • Office location: 4101 Route 124, Kars
  • 40-hour work week, with variable hours, including evenings and weekends when required
  • We promote a scent-reduced environment.
  • Some travel within the region will be required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from high school or GED with a minimum of three (3) years' experience in the operation and maintenance of ferries
  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate experience in marine activities, mechanics, hydraulics, electrical, metal fabrication and/or coating. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application the asset qualification in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

SALARY: $24.22 per hour.
