The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking an experienced leader for the role of Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) within the Agriculture Division, in Fredericton.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior leader to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of New Brunswick's agriculture sector. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in the stewardship, development, and promotion of agriculture in the province, advancing policies and programs that support sustainability, innovation, and economic growth. The ADM of Agriculture is responsible for overseeing the operations of the following branches:

• Livestock Sector Development
• Crop Sector Development
• Potato Sector Development
• Animal Health Services

As a member of the Executive Management team, reporting directly to the Deputy Minister, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

• Leadership and Team Effectiveness: The ADM will foster collaboration and positive relationships across teams, promoting a culture of high performance.
• Strategic Vision and Expertise: The successful candidate will have the ability to provide long-term business planning and development strategies that align with the organization's values and economic goals.
• Strategic Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement: The ADM will be proactive in fostering productive relationships with stakeholders and rights holders, including public/private partners, government agencies, industry, and First Nations. The ADM will also play a critical role in addressing multi-jurisdictional initiatives and challenges.
• Resource Management and Financial Accountability: The ADM will manage the division budget, allocate resources, and make financial recommendations, ensuring alignment with department and government priorities.
• Advisory Role: The ADM will provide expert advice to the Minister, Deputy Minister, and senior executives on complex issues impacting a range of stakeholders, and contribute to legislative, regulatory, and policy development.
• Additional duties may be assigned as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business Administration, Agriculture, Science, Social Science, or a related discipline; a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively more responsible experience in a government or large corporate setting, including a minimum of five (5) years at the senior level with human resources and financial management responsibilities. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that have science-based experience in environment, agriculture or natural resources sectors.   Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to travel throughout New Brunswick and within and outside of Canada, as required; and work extended hours and weekends, on occasion.

SALARY:  $129,766 to $142,740 per annum
